The Mount Pierce (formerly Mount Clinton , although the newer name is not universally accepted) is a mountain in the Presidential Range in the White Mountains in New Hampshire , which is about 1,314 meters high and after US President Franklin Pierce , the only one in New Hampshire-born President who is named. From its top there is a sweeping view of the New Hampshire mountains.
The shortest route to the summit of Mount Pierce starts at a parking lot west of the mountain on Mount Clinton Road just off US Highway 302 . The trail mainly follows the Crawford Path , the oldest hiking trail in the United States. The Appalachian Trail and Webster Cliff lead to Mount Jackson from the south and meet the Crawford Path just north of the summit before continuing northeast. Mount Eisenhower and Mount Monroe are located on the ridge northeast of Mount Pierce. All three peaks are included in the peak bagging list of the White mountain four-thousand footers in New Hampshire.
