Mount Tyrrell is a 1310 m high mountain with double peaks on the West Antarctic Alexander I Island . It rises 5 km inland from George VI Sound and near the mouth of the Toynbee Glacier .
The first aerial photos of the mountain were taken in 1937 during the British Graham Land Expedition under the direction of the Australian polar explorer John Rymill . The Falklands Islands Dependencies Survey carried out a survey in 1948. It is named after the British geologist George Walter Tyrrell (1883–1961) from the University of Glasgow .
