Mouth of the Architect is an American post-metal band founded in 2003 .

history

Mouth of the Architect, founded in Akron , Ohio in 2003 , released their first album just one year after they were founded on the Translation Loss Records label . Shortly afterwards, however, Vernon and Sommer left the band, whereupon the three remaining musicians faced the decision to split up the band or continue to make music together. Without a bass player and without a second guitarist, the band decided to record another album. Brian Cock from Botch and Russian Circles helped out as bass player for the recordings in Seattle , which were to be released in 2006 as The Ties That Blind .

In the same year Translation Loss released a split - EP by Mouth of the Architect and KENOMA . On the 17:14 minute track Sleepwalk Powder as well as on the tribute track Story of the Eye of the EyeHateGod - tribute album For the Sick , Chris Common took over the task of bassist at short notice in 2007.

However, Common had already been replaced by Kevin Schindel on Quietly , the next Mouth of the Architect release. From the EP The Violence Beneath 2008, Schindel took over the second guitar for the retired Alex Vernon, while Joe Lester joined the EP as the new bassist. When the band released Dawning in 2013 , Evan Danielson took over bass.

style

Eduardo Rivadavia sees the band in the footsteps of Neurosis , Isis and Godspeed You! Black Emperor . In this tradition, Mouth of the Architect is exploring the possibilities of atmospheric and at the same time progressive and meditative metal. In particular, comparisons with Neurosis and Cult of Luna are often sought for the musical style of Mouth of the Architect. The band is reminiscent of neurosis, especially through the often two-part shouting , but also has extended melodic phases. Acoustic elements, long Doom passages and various language samples give the band independence in post-metal , without reinventing the genre.
