history
Mr. Children formed as a school band under the name Beatnik and consisted of singer Kazutoshi Sakurai, guitarist Ken'ichi Tahara and bassist Keisuke Nakagawa. Hideya Suzuki, an acquaintance from high school, joined as a drummer. In 1987 the band changed its name to The Walls . At that time they were very influenced by the band Echoes . Since Tsugi Jinsei, the leader of the band, was politically active, the music of The Walls was also politically and socially oriented.
With the renewed change of the band name, the band, now called Mr. Children, turned away from political content and broke new ground. Mr. Children made their first appearances in a club called La Mama . In this way they became better known and therefore decided to make music professionally. Since they were unsuccessful with their demo tapes, however, they took a three-month break in 1991, which in turn brought about a change in their music style.
1992 her demo tape found Chokuzen attention Koichi Inabas the label Toy's Factory . He arranged for her a contract with Bad Music . Then the band played as opening act for the Japanese musician Jun Sky Walker . It was around this time that they met their future producer and close friend, Takeshi Kobayashi .
This collaboration ultimately resulted in the 1992 album Everything . After two more albums, they were traded as an insider tip in various music magazines. The single Cross Roads finally brought great success when it was selected as the theme song for the Dorama Dōsōkai . In the 22nd week after its release, the single broke the million mark in sales.
This was followed by the single Innocent World and the album Atomic Heart , whose music style is called digital rock in Japan . Mr. Children also worked for good causes. The song Kiseki no Hoshi , which emerged from a collaboration with Kuwata Keise of the Southern All Stars , was used as the title music for Act against AIDS concerts.
After recording the single Namonaki Uta and the album Shinkai , their Regress or Progress Tour began , where they played 55 concerts, which was a record in Japan. In 1997 the album Bolero was released, on March 31st a small concert for 1,000 fans was given in the Ebisu Garden Hall . This was followed by a three-year break from the band.
In 2000 the band activity was resumed. More singles and albums followed. On November 15, 2006, the band released their 26th single Shirushi , which is the theme music for the dorama Jyūyonsai no haha .
In early 2008, the drama "Battery", the theme song of which was the song "Shonen" by Mister Children, was broadcast on Japanese television. In 2010, Mr. Children was one of the first bands to climb to the top of the ORICON Weekly DVD Charts within one day with their DVD "Mr.Children DOME TOUR 2009 - SUPERMARKET FANTASY-IN TOKYO DOME"
