muSix was a German a cappella quintet.

history

The band was founded in 1997 as a sextet. The members were still students in Berlin at the time. They specialized in the interpretation of well-known pop and rock songs, which they worked exclusively a cappella. In addition to covers, the group also performs self-written titles.

Björn Sterzenbach replaced bassist Henrik Mei in 2002. In 2005 Lukas Teske, who has been singing with Maybebop since 2002 , left muSix. André Bachmann has been with muSix since then. Since Martin Hagen's departure in 2007, muSix has performed as a quintet.

MuSix won numerous prizes in the field of choir / a cappella music in international competitions. At the international a cappella competition and choir festival “vokal.total” the group received the “ Ward Swingle Award” in the “Comedy” category in 2009 and won further gold and silver diplomas in the “Pop” and “Jazz” categories. She has been nominated several times for the Contemporary A Cappella Recording Award ("CARA").

On their album heute wie neu , which was released by Edel Classics in 2008 , muSix interpreted Ostrock classics by bands like the Puhdys , Silly or Lift . They also toured with Silly and Jan Josef Liefers and appeared as a support act for electra as part of their Hot Summer Tour 2009 . In June 2009 they graced the cover of the magazine Melodie und Rhythmus , the main focus of which is on East German bands.

In October 2011 muSix released their sixth album Fhainkost , which for the first time consists almost exclusively of songs they had written themselves. The album title is a play on words and refers to the Berlin district of Friedrichshain . In the same year, they presented parts of the album at the songs on a summer evening , the title Flieg was on the CD of this anniversary concert.

In January 2013 bass Björn Sterzenbach switched to the Dutch a cappella quartet Rock4. Marco A. Billep took his place as bass.

In January 2014 the band announced that they would quit in June 2014 to devote themselves to other musical projects.

Stefan Flügel, André Bachmann and Patrick Oliver sing in the sextet ONAIR, founded in 2013 . On March 11, 2016, the German a cappella group Wise Guys introduced Björn Sterzenbach as the new bass and replacement for Andrea Figallo for their quintet.
