history

The area of today's town Pak Kret has been inhabited since at least the 18th century. Around 1721/22, the then strongly meandering course of the Chao Phraya was straightened at this point , creating the island of Ko Kret . The villages of Ban Tret Noi and Ban Pak Tret Noi were built on the bank and at the mouth of the straightened section .

According to the old local administrative law, Pak Kret had the status of a "sanitary district" (Sukhaphiban) from 1955 . In the context of industrialization and the rapid growth of Bangkok in the 1980s, companies and institutions relocated their headquarters outside the borders of the capital, including to Pak Kret, due to a lack of space. Lots of people also moved here, especially to Muang Thong Thani. In 1992 Pak Kret was granted town charter and in 2000 it was made a city.

Infrastructure

The Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University , an open- access university, has its headquarters in Pak Kret, as does the International School Bangkok . The Thai Premier League football club Muangthong United is also based here. Pak Kret has been linked to the inner districts of Bangkok by the Sirat Expressway since the 1990s . There is a cross connection to the northern districts of Lak Si and Don Mueang (with Bangkok-Don Mueang Airport ) via Chaeng-Watthana-Straße. The Pak Kret landing stage (N 33) is the northern end of the green flagged express boat line on the Chao Phraya.
