Muchuri ( Mingrelian and Georgian მუხური ) is a West Georgian village in the Mingrelia and Upper Svaneti region in the municipality of Chchorozqu . Most of it lies in the Colchian Plain , but extends partially to a foothill of the Great Caucasus . Close to the center of the village, a bridge built on rock with two arches spans the Chobiszqali (Georgian ხობისწყალი) river, which rises in the great Caucasus and leaves the Lugella valley here . In the east, Mukhuri borders the village of Taia ( Georgian თაია), in the south on the villages of Zumi (ზუმი) and Khabume (ხაბუმე) and in the north on Kanti (კანთი).
Until the 1990s there was one of the largest Soviet breeding stations for the Caucasian bee in the village . Even today, honey production is an important source of income for the villagers.
About 3.5 km from the village center upstream there is an entrance to a karst cave called Shurubumu (Georgian შურუბუმუ) in the Lugella Valley.
Also in the Lugella Valley, about 5 km from the town center, there is a mineral water spring with a high concentration of calcium.
In the summer months, Mukhuri is a popular travel destination for Georgian city dwellers. In the area of the village bridge, the Khobistskhali builds up into a small bathing lake up to about three meters deep. The jump from the almost ten meter high bridge into the water is seen as a test of courage. Every year in August the "Menchuruva Championship" (Mingrelian Jedes) takes place exclusively in Mukhuri. Two swimmers compete against each other, bounded by a five by five meter square of ropes. The swimmer who manages to submerge the other first wins the round and moves on to the next final round. In the end, the best Menchuruva swimmer will be honored.
The place is interesting for hikers as the starting point for a multi-day circular hike that leads to the Tobavarchkhili (Mingrelian and Georgian ტობავარჩხილი) mountain lake at an altitude of 2,647 meters.
