Muhammad Abu al-Qasim az-Zuwai

Muhammad Abu l-Qasim az-Zuwai ( Arabic محمد أبو القاسم الزوي, DMG Muḥammad Abū l-Qāsim az-Zuwayy ; also Muhammad Abul-Quasim al-Zwai ; * May 14, 1952 ) is a Libyan politician.

Muammar al-Gaddafi's schoolmate was involved in his 1969 coup. In 2001 he became the Libyan ambassador in London . As the successor to Mubarak Abdallah asch-Schamich , he was Secretary General of the General People's Congress of Libya from January 26, 2010 to August 23, 2011 and thus de jure head of state of the country.
After the conquest of the capital Tripoli by the troops of the National Transitional Council in August 2011 in the course of the Libyan civil war , as-Zuwai was arrested by rebels on September 8th.
