Mulatu Teshome Wirtu ( Amharic ሙላቱ ተሾመ , born 1955 or 1956 in Arjo , Province Wollega , Ethiopia ) is an Ethiopian politician and diplomat and was on 7 October 2013 to October 25, 2018 President of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. He is a member of the Oromo People's Democratic Organization , which is part of the ruling coalition Revolutionary Democratic Front .

Life

Mulatu Teschome studied in the People's Republic of China and received his bachelor's degree in philosophy of political economy and his doctorate in international law from Beijing University . He then taught at numerous foreign universities and institutions.

In the mid-1990s, Teschome became Deputy Minister for Economic Development and Cooperation under Girma Birru and was appointed Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development on October 7, 2001, which he remained until July 1, 2003. From 2002 to 2005 he was also the spokesman for the Ethiopian Federal Parliament .

Mulatu later became Ethiopia's ambassador to the People's Republic of China, then to Japan and, on April 21, 2006, to Turkey . While he served as ambassador to Turkey, he was unanimously on October 7, 2013 by the Parliament to the President of Ethiopia selected . Girma Seifu from the Unity for Democracy and Justice party , the only opposition member in the People's House of Representatives , welcomed his election. He resigned from his position on October 25, 2018.

Like his predecessors, Mulatu Teschome is an Oromo . He has a son.
