Acajete is a municipality in the Mexican state of Veracruz . The municipality covers an area of ​​97.8 km². In 2010, Acajete had a population of 8,223. The administrative seat and the most populous place of the municipality is the Acajete of the same name .

geography

The municipality of Acajete is located in the center of the state of Veracruz in the Capital region at an altitude between 1180  m and 3100  m . It is located in the physiographic province of the Sierra Volcánica Transversal and drains over the Río Papaloapan into the Gulf of Mexico . Geologically, the municipality consists of 38% andesite , 35% tuff , 13% basalt and 13% breccias . The soil type of 96% of the municipality is the Andosol , followed by 3% Leptosol . About 55% of the community area is forested, about 28% of the area is used for agriculture, 16% as pasture land.

The municipality of Acajete borders on the municipalities of Rafael Lucio , Tlalnelhuayocan , Las Vigas de Ramírez , Tlacolulan , Perote and Coatepec .

In the 2010 census, 8223 people were counted in 1990 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 10 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language . About 16.5% of the population were illiterate. 3154 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which approx. 78% were men or a good two percent were unemployed. Almost 27% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
