Cuautinchán is a municipality in the Mexican state of Puebla . The municipality covers an area of 160.8 km². In 2010, Cuautinchán had a population of 9538 inhabitants. The administrative seat, but not the most populous place of the municipality, is Cuautinchán of the same name .
geography
The municipality Cuautinchán is centrally located in the state of Puebla about 30 km east of its capital, Heroica Puebla de Zaragoza in the V region at an altitude between 2000 m and 2560 m . It is entirely part of the Physiographic Province of the Sierra Volcánica Transversal . The municipality drains completely over the Río Atoyac into the Pacific . The predominant rock types are the igneous extrusive rocks tuff (26%) and basalt (25%) with 16% sedimentary rock and 12% alluvial soil . Soil type of 54% of the municipality is the Leptosol , followed by 23% Durisol and 19% Phaeozem . More than half of the community area is used for arable farming, almost 10% is covered by forest.
The municipality of Cuautinchán borders on the municipalities Tepeaca , Acajete , Amozoc , Puebla , Tzicatlacoyan and Tecali de Herrera and thus on the Zona Metropolitana de Puebla-Tlaxcala .

In the 2010 census, 9538 people were counted in 2163 residential units in the municipality. A good one percent of them are speakers of an indigenous language , including 65 Nahuatl and 21 Totonak speakers . A little over 11% of the population was illiterate. 3288 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which over 76% were men or 6.5% were unemployed. A good 26% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
