Tlaxco is a municipality in the Mexican state of Puebla . The municipality covers an area of ​​54.9 km². In 2010, Tlaxco had a population of 5,415. The administrative seat and most populous place of the municipality is Tlaxco of the same name .

geography

The municipality of Tlaxco is located in the north of the state of Puebla in Región I at an altitude between 400  m and 1900  m . It is entirely part of the physiographic province of the Sierra Madre Oriental . The municipality is located in the catchment area of ​​the Río Tuxpan and thus drains into the Gulf of Mexico . The geology of the municipality is made up of different sedimentary rocks ( limestone and sandstone ). The soil type of 87% of the municipality is the Luvisol with 13% Umbrisol . Around half of the community area is used for arable farming, around a third is forested, 16% is used as pasture land.

The municipality of Tlaxco borders on the municipality of Tlacuilotepec and the state of Hidalgo .

The 2010 census counted 5,415 people in 1347 residential units in the municipality. Of these, 750 people were registered as speakers of an indigenous language , including 651 speakers of the Otomí . 18.8% of the population were illiterate. 1800 inhabitants were registered as economically active, of which around 84% were men or just under 4% were unemployed. Over 44% of the population lived in extreme poverty.
