Munio Pillinger

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Munio Pillinger was an Austrian table tennis player who took part in three world championships in the 1920s and won two silver and two bronze medals.

Career

Munio Pillinger played for the clubs SC Hakoah Vienna and SC Maccabi Vienna .

At the 1926 World Cup in London, he won silver with the Austrian team behind Hungary. In the individual he reached the semi-finals after victories over JK Werner (England), HA Bennett (England), Hans-Georg Lindenstaedt (Germany) (without a fight) and Hedley Penny (Wales), in which he was defeated by the eventual world champion Roland Jacobi (Hungary) . A first round win against the Englishmen CG Mase / Bernard Bernstein (England) and a fight-free advance in round two were enough for the doubles with Paul Flußmann to move into the semi-finals. Here, too, they lost against the eventual world champions Roland Jacobi / Dániel Pécsi (Hungary), so it was "only" enough for bronze.

At the next World Cup, in Stockholm in 1928 , he and the team reached the final against Hungary, which was lost again. In the individual he was eliminated by a defeat against Bedrich Fritz Nikodem (TCH). The doubles with Paul Flußmann defeated CG Mase / AE Stillwell (England) and Antonin Malecek / Erwin Fleischmann (TCH) and then failed in the quarterfinals to Charles Bull / Fred Perry (England).

In 1929 he did not win a medal. He was not used in the Austrian team. In the singles he won against Arturas Amonas (Lithuania) and then lost to Antonin Malecek (TCH). This time he performed doubles with Erwin Kohn . The victory over Fritz Nikodem / Erwin Fleischmann (TCH) was followed by a defeat against István Kelen / Zoltán Mechlovits (Hungary).
