The Murray River National Park is a national park in the southeast of the Australian state of South Australia , 186 km northeast of Adelaide , and immediately southwest of Renmark . The national park comprises three separate areas, Katarapko , Lyrup Flat and Bulyong Island .

In Katarapko there are floodplains and various wetlands. Water birds like to breed there, which makes this part of the park an interesting place for bird watching.

The Lyrup Flats immediately west of Renmark encompass 20 square kilometers of the northern river bank and the Murray River floodplains . In addition to bird watching, there are good fishing opportunities here.

Bulyong Island in the middle of the Murray River can only be reached by boat and provides habitat for western gray kangaroos , emus , pelicans , kingfishers and various species of parrots .
