The Lake Gairdner National Park is a national park in the southern Australian state of South Australia , 436 km north-west of Adelaide , about 210 km north east of Ceduna and about 120 km west of Woomera . The park, which includes the salt lakes of Lake Gairdner , Lake Harris and Lake Everard , is located directly south of the Trans Australian Railway , the Stuart Highway and the Woomera restricted area .

Driveway

Public access to the park, which is surrounded by privately used pastureland, is severely restricted. Easiest access is from the Yardea - Kingoonya road at Brothers Well , a concrete well next to the road at the south end of Moonarie Station (although the street signs indicate that you are at Yardea Station ). The road is unpaved, but good enough for normal road vehicles in dry weather. If it rains, the highway administration will close it.

National nature

Usually the land there is completely dry and without any surface or ground water. It can get extremely hot in the summer, but in the spring this land is very popular with bird watchers and botanists.

Culture

In this area lives Aboriginesstamm the Kokatha and there is still occupied by them for ceremonies holy places.
