Murray Shostak

Murray Shostak (* before 1968 in Montreal ) is a Canadian film producer. He was nominated for both an Oscar and a Golden Raspberry .

Life

In 1968 Shostak and Gerald Potterton (* 1931) founded the private film animation studio Potterton Productions in Montreal, later Potterton Shostak Productions. One of the studio's earliest works was working on the Beatles animated film Yellow Submarine , which appeared in 1968. Short animated films followed, including Tiki Tiki and the Oscar Wilde film adaptation The Selfish Giant , which was nominated for an Oscar in the category of Best Animated Short in 1972 . There were also contributions for Sesame Street .

In the early 1980s Shostak was involved in founding Universal Productions Canada (UPC) and was managing director of UPC for three years. In 1983 he founded his own production studio Canadian International Studios (CIS), which among other things produced the feature film Duett for three with Catherine Deneuve in the leading role. In 1991, Shostak co-founded CineVu Productions in Vancouver , alongside Jeff Barmash and Georgeeschbaumer , which, like Potterton Productions, was part of CIS. Shostak produced films such as Flinch - A Killing Phantom , The Power of Violence and Sliders - The Gate into a Foreign Dimension with CineVu . For Cannonball Fever - Shostak was nominated for a Golden Raspberry in the Worst Film category.

In 1995, CIS merged with Shostak's new production company Shostak / Rossner Productions, which he founded with Danny Rossner. Shostak / Rossner Productions specialized in low-budget feature films and television series, resulting in films such as Sci-Fighter - Vorhof zur Hölle (1996), Strip Search (1997) and Justice to Death (1999). In 2001 Shostak became Senior Vice President of Corporate Development at the Canadian film distributor La Fête. Shostak helped develop the equestrian film Heartland - Paradise for Horses - The Film , which was released in 2010.

Shostak was married to dressage rider Evi Strasser ; the marriage had a daughter.
