The Museu do Design e da Moda (MUDE) is a design and fashion museum in the Baixa Pombalina , the center of the city of Lisbon .

history

The museum already existed between 1999 and 2006 as a department in the Centro Cultural de Belém . After the renovation of the former headquarters of Banco Nacional Ultramarino in Rua Augusta , it reopened on May 21, 2008 with expanded exhibition space and fashion as an additional focus.

The collection includes around 1000 works from the field of design and around 1200 from the field of fashion (such as chairs and chests of drawers, costumes and handbags from the 19th century to the present day), including works by Russel Wright , Charlotte Perriand , Ettore Sottsass , Mar Newson , Charles & Ray Eames , Le Corbusier , Droog Design , Yves Saint Laurent , Christian Dior , Vivienne Westwood , Versace , Pierre Balmain , Paco Rabanne , Jean Paul Gaultier and John Galliano .
