The Museum of Modern Art Carinthia (MMKK) is a museum located in the city center of Klagenfurt , which is located in the premises of the so-called Klagenfurt Castle . It shows modern and contemporary art on an exhibition area of ​​around 1000 square meters .

The MMKK presents regional, national and international artist positions in solo and themed exhibitions. The castle chapel, decorated with frescoes by the Carinthian baroque painter Josef Ferdinand Fromiller, is available to artists as a project and installation space.

One focus is the state of Carinthia's own collections . These include works by well-known artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, such as Hans Bischoffshausen, Kiki Kogelnik , Maria Lassnig , Hermann Nitsch , Arnulf Rainer , Hans Staudacher and, as representatives of the younger generation, Heimo Zobernig and Hans Schabus .

After extensive renovation and revitalization measures, the MMKK was installed in the premises of the former Carinthian State Gallery in 2003 and took over the holdings of the Art Collection of the State of Carinthia from there. The MMKK has been under the direction of Christine Wetzlinger-Grundnig since 2010.
