Music & the present

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Musik & Gegenwart is a Leipzig series of events on new music that was initiated in 2007 at the "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" University of Music and Theater in Leipzig by the composition department and has since been held there by teachers and students of the university with regular concerts and an annual interdisciplinary symposium is maintained. The series is headed by Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf . The " interdisciplinary symposium" of the same name takes place in cooperation with the Society for Music and Aesthetics.

Concert series

The concert series of the same name started in the 2007/2008 winter semester with a concert on the occasion of the first symposium. Around seven concerts take place each academic year. It already sounded u. a. the complete piano works by Iannis Xenakis and Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf , a. a. Paul Hübner, Ermis Theodorakis and Peter Veale played . Reinhard Schmiedel is responsible for the musical direction.

symposium

The two-day symposium sees itself as

“Open discussion forum on questions of the artistic, cultural, social and political place of music in the immediate present. What moves them in autumn 2009 will be circled, problematized and analyzed in an interdisciplinary manner - from the fields of philosophy, music criticism, science, composition and literature. "

The interdisciplinary character is reflected in the specialist areas of the speakers. There are lectures that specifically concern the composition (and only make up a small part of the symposium) such as For example, Johannes Kreidler's “Sounds in the Concert Hall ” from 2008, alongside literary readings or scientific presentations such as Stefan Kölsch's from 2009, music and emotion - a neuroscientific perspective .

Previous symposia:

  • 15.-16. November 2008
  • 20-21 November 2009
