David Schnell

David Schnell (* 1971 in Bergisch Gladbach ) is a German painter . He lives and works in Leipzig and is considered a representative of the so-called " New Leipzig School ".

life and work

After graduating from high school in 1991, David Schnell studied painting from 1995 to 2000 at the Leipzig School of Graphics and Book Art . From 2000 to 2002 he was a master student of Arno Rink and in 2002 co-founder of the Liga producer gallery in Berlin , which was supported by eleven former HGB students, including Christoph Ruckhäberle , Matthias Weischer and Tom Fabritius . As early as 2002, the press formed the term “New Leipzig School” (NLS) for the exhibitions of this heterogeneous group of artists. The producer gallery league disbanded in 2004 after two years of existence. He was also a musician.

In 2001 Schnell received the Saxon State Scholarship. In 2009 he designed the so-called Peace Window of the St. Thomas Church in Leipzig . In 2013 he received a scholarship from the Villa Massimo Rome . In 2016 he was commissioned to design the church windows for the Christ Church in Cologne. Schnell has been working at the Alte Handelsschule since 2018 .
