Tom Fabritius (* 1972 in Radeberg ) is a German painter . He lives and works in Leipzig and is considered a representative of the so-called New Leipzig School .

Life

Fabritius left the GDR with his family in 1984 . He passed his Abitur in 1992 at the Mörike grammar school in Göppingen . He then did community service and then began studying forest sciences in Freiburg, which he broke off after obtaining his intermediate diploma in order to study painting and graphics from 1996 at the Leipzig College of Graphics and Book Art . From 2001 to 2003 he was a master student with Arno Rink .

In 2002 he co-founded the producer gallery LIGA in Berlin-Mitte, which was supported by eleven former HGB students, including Tim Eitel , Christoph Ruckhäberle , David Schnell , Matthias Weischer and Tilo Baumgärtel . As early as 2002, the press formed the term “New Leipzig School” (NLS) for the exhibitions of this heterogeneous group of artists. The producer gallery league disbanded in 2004 after two years of existence.

Hans-Werner Schmidt counts Fabritius to the inner core of the NLS. His studio is currently located in the Leipzig Cotton Spinning Mill Cultural Center .

He “[...] grabs his picture templates by [he] persevering as a high-seat shooter in front of the television and waiting for exciting constellations with the photo camera at the ready. When Fabritius implements these 'eye gazes' prepared with the camera in watercolor on paper or acrylic on canvas, he succeeds in creating strong, sometimes dramatic images [...] "
