Tilo Baumgärtel

Tilo Baumgärtel (* 1972 in Leipzig ) is a contemporary painter . He is considered a representative of the so-called New Leipzig School .

Life

After graduating from high school, he trained as a skilled worker for machine tools. From 1991 to 1994 he attended the Academy for Graphics and Book Art in Leipzig . From 1994 to 1998 he was in the painting class with Arno Rink , where he was a master class student from 1998 to 2000. Since 1999 he has been living as a freelance painter in Leipzig. Together with around 80 other artists, he settled on the grounds of the Leipzig cotton spinning mill .

Baumgärtel is a member of the LIGA Berlin studio project . His works can be seen at the Museum der Bildenden Künste in Leipzig , the Saatchi Gallery and the Von der Heydt Museum . Since April 2020 he has been professor of painting at the Burg Giebichenstein Art College in Halle .
