Udell "Del" Sylvester Andrews (born October 5, 1894 in St. Louis , Missouri , † October 27, 1942 in Tonopah , Nevada ) was an American film director and screenwriter .

biography

Andrews initially worked as a director in the Hollywood film industry and, following his debut film , the comedic short film The Better Role from 1917, directed around 40 silent films by 1929.

At the beginning of the 1920s , he also took up work as a screenwriter and, in addition to scenarios, also wrote subtitles for silent films. At the Academy Awards in November 1930 he was nominated alongside George Abbott and Maxwell Anderson for the Oscar for the best adapted screenplay for Nothing New in the West (1930) based on the anti-war novel of the same name by Erich Maria Remarque .
