Music factory Lower Austria
The Musikfabrik Niederösterreich is a non-profit association and partner of the department for art and culture at the office of the Lower Austria state government . She is involved in the promotion of regional projects of contemporary music. The core of the association's activities is the artist in residence program “musik aktuell - new music in lower Austria” with an annual changing focus, which realizes an average of over 100 events and projects per year in cooperation with local organizers in Lower Austria.
In addition, there are further training courses: workshops for beginners and advanced students are offered under the title of Lower Austria Jazz Academy, as well as the university course "Jazz in Contemporary Music" in cooperation with Danube University Krems (Center for Contemporary Music). Outside the genre of contemporary music, the association offers the "Edelhof Music Factory " as a musical summer workshop.
The history
The Lower Austria Music Factory goes back to an initiative of the former rector of the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Erwin Ortner . The association was founded in 1990 with the aim of promoting contemporary music in all its diversity and making it attractive to a wider audience. In order to confront the audience with contemporary music not only through "frontal presentations" in concerts, a supplementary communication concept was developed which offers those interested the opportunity to deepen themselves in the field of new music through active singing and making music.
Gottfried Zawichowski (* 1960) is both the initiator and, since 1996, managing director of the Lower Austria Music Factory . After completing studies in music pedagogy (University of Vienna) and business administration (Vienna University of Economics and Business) and musicology (University of Vienna), he was and is for the musical youth of Austria , the Lower Austria choir scene, for the Danube University Krems and as a freelance producer and production manager.

musik aktuell - new music in lower austria
musik aktuell - neue musik in Niederösterreich is a specifically Lower Austrian series of events that promote creative and interesting contemporary music without narrow stylistic boundaries and make it accessible to a wide audience. In order to do justice to the multifaceted nature of new music, an artist is invited annually with the assistance of an advisory board of trustees to determine the thematic focus for the coming season as artist in residence and to make a pre-selection from the projects submitted.
The selected projects are then sent to a “pool” of interested organizers in Lower Austria, who register their preferred projects with musik aktuell for financial support and implementation. The subsequent handling of the projects can be supported organizationally and professionally, for example by means of press and public relations work and accompanying mediation and further training offers for artists and interested laypeople. The Musikfabrik Niederösterreich generally supports between 40 and 60% of the event costs. In this way, it was possible to put together an annual program of an average of 100 realized events and projects.

Edelhof music factory
The chamber music course Musikfabrik Edelhof has been held annually since 1975 at the Edelhof agricultural college in Zwettl / Lower Austria. It is an offer for vocal and instrumental music-making as well as courtly dance with a focus on baroque music, which is aimed primarily at lay people, but also at professional musicians and singers.
