Ernst Kovacic

Ernst Kovacic (born April 12, 1943 in Kapfenberg , Styria) is an Austrian violinist and conductor .

Live and act

Ernst Kovacic studied violin, piano and organ at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna , where he took composition lessons . He has been teaching at this university since 1975. He is the winner of numerous important prizes in international competitions. Kovacic plays a violin by Giovanni Battista Guadagnini from 1753. Among other things, he is known for his intensive commitment to new music , many contemporary composers such as Ernst Krenek , Friedrich Cerha , Georg Friedrich Haas , Johannes Maria Staud , Beat Furrer , Robin Holloway , Nigel Osborne , Helmut Eder , Iván Eröd , Kurt Schwertsik , Karlheinz Essl junior , a. a. composed works for the artist. From 1996 to 1998 Kovacic was artistic director of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and also played with numerous well-known ensembles such as the Northern Sinfonia , Britten Sinfonia , Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra , St Paul's Chamber Orchestra , Norwegian Chamber Orchestra , Klangforum Wien , Ensemble Modern , Camerata Salzburg , Camerata Bern or the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen . Since 2007 he has been artistic director of the Leopoldinum Chamber Orchestra in Breslau (Wrocław). Since 2008 he has been violinist in the "Zebra Trio" with Steven Dann and Anssi Karttunen . Together with Beat Furrer he leads the "Impulse" seminars for new music in Graz. He is the program curator of various festivals, including a. brückenmürz in styria and leo festival in wroclaw poland.
