action

Two movers deliver a piano for the Panislowski family. Mr. Panislowski explains to them that he would like to use a video camera to record the takeover of the instrument that his mother Berta Panislowski had sent as a gift from Massachusetts . Before the recording begins, he gives his wife, known as “Muttilein”, his grandchildren Heinz-Herbert and Klaus-Dieter and their daughter-in-law Helga and son Thomas, who is shooting the video, instructions on what to say and what to do. His staging stipulates that everyone is sitting in fine clothing "comfortably at the coffee table" when the piano unexpectedly arrives at the "harmonious, small family in Germany". In the course of the action, however, various mishaps occur, so that the recording has to be interrupted and repeated several times: First, the two movers come in through the door without carrying the piano into the living room as planned by Mr. Panislowski; at the second attempt they are shocked by “Muttileins” against the sideboard; on the third attempt, the movers keep waiting, so that Mr Panislowski wants to see where they are and then comes across the opening door. When the movers have difficulty pronouncing "Massachusetts", Mr. Panislowski suggests leaving it out and just saying that it is "a gift from my mother." The movers then took the exact wording and stated that it was a gift from his mother. To make matters worse, the children and Helga feel sick after several pieces of cake that they had to eat because of the repetitions and “Muttilein” would like to prepare dinner. In the end, Mr. Panislowski is satisfied with one shot, even though the movers said "from Berta from Panislowski". He spreads his arms and calls out “Mother, we thank you!”, Whereby the film camera takes the angle of the video camera and reveals that the piano that has been brought in blocks the view of the carefully staged family group.

reception

Heinz Meier became known through this sketch, among other things.

The sentence “A piano, a piano!”, Which Helga has to say repeatedly in mock surprise, has become a catchphrase and has passed into common parlance. He can also be found outside of Loriot's actual reception.
