Geographical location

Mutzenroth is located in the north of the Oberschwarzach municipality. The municipality of Gerolzhofen begins further north, and the Steigerwaldklinik Waldesruh is closest to the village. In the east rises with the Stollbergerforst, a community-free area in the district of Schweinfurt. In contrast, Oberschwarzach itself can be found to the south. Düttingsfeld lies in the southwest , while Wiebelsberg lies in the northwest .

history

The name of the place goes back to a Franconian nobleman named Muzilo. He cleared the area of today's municipality and settled the village. During the Middle Ages, Mutzenroth was part of the Würzburg bishopric for a long time and was assigned to the office and district court of Oberschwarzach. Later the village was an independent municipality in the Kingdom of Bavaria and then part of the Gerolzhofen district. Today it is a district of Oberschwarzach in the Schweinfurt district.

Attractions

The center of the village is the Catholic branch church . It is consecrated to St. Luke and was built around 1850. A square, small roof turret was attached above the facade . Between 1964 and 1966, the building was expanded and the sacristy and choir were added to the church. A concrete glass window in the choir comes from the Schweinfurt artist Gustl Kirchner, the altar table was created by Ludwig Boßle. The oldest element is a baroque figure of St. Luke.

Furthermore, two wayside shrines have survived in Mutzenroth. One stands at the so-called Pfaffenteich and shows the Pietà in its relief , with Saint Wendelin and Saint Sebastian attached as side figures . Probably the artist Johann Hillenbrand created the stick. Another torture comes from the 18th century. It was made with a crucifixion relief and is located on the edge of the state road to Wiebelsberg.
