Mykhaylo Hryhorowytsch Lysenko ( Ukrainian Михайло Григорович Лисенко , Russian Михаил Григорьевич Лысенко Mikhail Grigoryevich Lysenko ; October 16, jul. / 29. October  1906 greg. In Schpyliwka , Kharkov Governorate , Russian Empire , † 8. May 1972 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) was a Ukrainian - Soviet sculptor .

Life

Mychajlo Lyssenko was born into a farming family in the village of Shpyliwka in what is now Sumy Raion in the Ukrainian Sumy Oblast . He went to school in Sumy and studied from 1926 at the Art Institute in Kharkov with Leonora Bloch ( Леонора Абрамівна Блох , 1881-1943) and Iwan Severa ( Іван Васильович Севера , 1891-1971).

From 1944 onwards, Lyssenko taught (as a professor from 1947) at the Kiev Art Institute . One of his students is Halyna Kaltschenko . From 1948 he was a member of the CPSU (b) and in 1970 he became a member of the Russian Academy of Arts . He mainly worked in the genre of the easel and created numerous monumental sculptures . Lyssenko died in 1972 at the age of 65 in Kiev and was buried there in the Baikowe cemetery .
