Halyna Nykyforiwna Kaltschenko (born February 4, 1926 in Borsna , Ukrainian SSR , † March 11, 1975 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR ) was a Ukrainian sculptor.

Life

Halyna Kaltschenko was born as the daughter of the Ukrainian- Soviet politician Nykyfor Kaltschenko in Borsna, a small town in what is now Chernihiv Oblast . She studied with Mychajlo Lyssenko (1906–1972) at the Institute of Fine Arts in Kiev until 1953 .

Kaltschenko created numerous busts and monuments, many of which can be found in galleries, painting collections and museums such as the National Taras Shevchenko Museum and the Lesja Ukrajinka Museum in Kiev.

Halyna Kaltschenko was the model for the colossal Mother-Homeland statue in Kiev designed by the sculptor Wassyl Borodaj (1917-2010) and inaugurated in 1981 .

She died of cancer in Kiev at the age of 49 and was buried in the Baikowe cemetery .
