Näätämö ( Finnish ) or Njauddâm ( Skoltsamisch ) (also Njávdán on North Sami and Recording in Norwegian ) is a village in the municipality of Inari in Finnish Lapland . It is located in the north of the municipality around 150 km northeast of the village of Inari, only a few kilometers from the border with Norway . Näätämö is on regional road 971 , which leads from Kaamanen to the border crossing to Norway and on to Kirkenes . Sami and Finns live in the village . In the center there are 2 supermarkets with gas stations and a motel with a restaurant .
history
Together with Neiden , which is now in Norway , Näätämö originally formed the westernmost Skolt- Sami Siida .
The originally contiguous settlement was officially divided in 1852. This demarcation between Sweden-Norway on the one hand and the Grand Duchy of Finland on the other handicapped the cross-border reindeer herding and fishing and made the traditional economy of the local population partially impossible.
