Når livet går sin vej (translated: When life comes to an end) is a Danish animated short film by Stefan Fjeldmark and Karsten Kiilerich from 1997. The film uses real interview recordings from students at Skolen i Charlottegården in Copenhagen as the basis for the animation, which is similar to children's drawings. Despite the topic, the score is kept optimistic.

Children share their thoughts on death. A girl's little brother has died and she shares how cold he felt and how much she cried when he was buried. She would like her brother to come back to her as a dog, for example, and she often prays to be able to talk to him for just a minute.
Other children share their thoughts on rebirth (you just climb out of the grave into an elevator that brings you back to the surface of the earth), about God (he looks like an old king) and the devil and life in heaven (you can walking on clouds and playing soccer). One girl finds out at the end that she doesn't worry too much about death because she has her whole life ahead of her.
Awards
Når livet går sin vej received third place in the category “Best International Film” at the Corto Imola Festival in 1997. At the World Animation Celebration , the film received the UNICEF Awards and won in the “Best Animation Produced for Educational Purposes” category.
The film was nominated for an Oscar in 1999 in the category " Best Animated Short Film ", but could not prevail against Bunny .
