Career
Club career
Néstor Lorenzo, born in 1966 in the Argentine capital Buenos Aires , began playing football for the local first division club Argentinos Juniors . From 1985 he played in the first team of the Juniors. In Lorenzo's first year as a player in the Argentinos Juniors, the team around Jorge Olguín , Sergio Batista and Claudio Borghi won the Copa Libertadores by beating Colombian representative América de Cali in the final . Néstor Lorenzo, however, belonged to the reserve bank at most. Only after the greatest success in the club history of the Argentinos Juniors did Lorenzo, who acted in the position of a defender, become a regular. From 1985 to 1989 he brought it to 68 league games in the Primera División , where he succeeded in scoring .
In 1989 Néstor Lorenzo left Argentina and went to what was then probably the best league in the world, the Italian Serie A , where he joined the first division promoted AS Bari . In Bari he was involved in a very successful season that ended as a new league player on a respectable tenth place in the table. In the same year, AS Bari achieved the only international success to date with winning the Mito Cup. Despite the success, Néstor Lorenzo changed clubs again in the summer of 1990 and went to Swindon Town in England . There the Argentine was under contract for the next two years and during this time he made 27 league games with two goals, he was not necessarily a regular player. In 1992 he went back to his homeland and joined the capital club CA San Lorenzo de Almagro , where he completed 63 league games with three goals in two years, but could not win any major titles. After leaving San Lorenzo in the summer of 1994, Néstor Lorenzo went through three more positions in the following three years with engagements at CA Banfield , Ferro Carril Oeste and the Boca Juniors , before he ended his football career in 1997 at the age of 31.
National team
Between 1988 and 1990 Néstor Lorenzo was used in fifteen international matches of the Argentine national football team. He managed to score one goal here. He was appointed to the South American squad for the 1990 World Cup in Italy by national coach Carlos Bilardo . At the tournament, Lorenzo played about half of the games, but was not used in the final. This was lost by the Argentine team 0-1 against Germany , they missed it to defend the 1986 world championship title. After the World Tournament in Italy in 1990, Néstor Lorenzo's time in the Argentine national football team also ended.
