The Nützenberger Wald (also Nützenbergwald ) is an urban forest in the Elberfeld-West district of Wuppertal and is located on the 259.3 meter high Nützenberg elevation . With the Nützenbergpark (also known as Kaiserhöhe ) there is a historical park from the 19th century, which was created by the Elberfeld Beautification Association at the time .

description

Nützenberg Forest

The forest area is around 41 hectares and covers the top of the Nützenberg. The villa area Briller Viertel joins it in the east . In the west the forest reaches up to the federal motorway 46 (A 46).

The western part of the forest area consists of red oak , sessile oak , ash , maple and birch , as well as a few beeches . The holdings are mainly from the post-war years.

As part of the Regionale 2006 , the lower area was designated as a dog exercise area, dogs are normally not allowed to run in the forest without a leash. This part will be thinned in the winter half-year 2011/2012 after this has not been done in the last 15 years. The non-indigenous red oaks are to be successively replaced by common oaks .

Nützenbergpark

In the center of the forest area is the Nützenbergpark. The creation of the park structures was started in 1874 by the Elberfeld Beautification Association. Here, at the highest point of the Nützenberg, is the Weyerbuschturm, built in 1898 . Opposite him is the car park ranger's house , Haus Weyerbusch , from the same time the tower was built. There is a playground around the Weyerbuschturm, where a summer festival takes place once a year. Next to the football field, north of the Nützenbergpark, there is a large gravel sports field known as the Kaiserhöhe .

Also as part of the Regionale 2006, the park with its large playground was renewed and expanded, so that a high wire course, an artificial turf football field and other climbing equipment are now also available.
