NR Narayana Murthy CBE ( Nagavara Ramarao Narayana Murthy ; Kannada ಎನ್ ಆರ್ ನಾರಾಯಣಮೂರ್ತಿ En Ār Nārāyaṇamūrtī ; born August 20, 1946 in Mysore , Mysore [now Karnataka ]) is an Indian industrialist and co-founder of the software company Infosys Technologies .

Life

Narayana Murthy was born into a Brahmin family . He first attended the university in Mysore and completed his university education in 1969 with a master's degree from the IIT Kanpur . Narayana Murthy began his career as chief systems programmer at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad . A few years later he founded his first company called "Softronics", but when it went bankrupt shortly afterwards, he worked at Patni Computer Systems in Pune .

In 1981 Narayana Murthy founded the software company Infosys Technologies together with six colleagues . His wife Sudha Murthy provided him with the start-up capital of 10,000 rupees . From 1981 to 2002 he was the company's CEO for 21 years. After his resignation, he became Chairman of the Supervisory Board and “Chief Mentor”. On June 1, 2013, Narayana Murthy returned to Infosys as Executive Chairman and Extended Director. On June 12, 2014 it was announced that Narayana Murthy would step down as "Executive Chairman" on June 14. Until October 10th he remained "Non-Executive Chairman", since October 11th, Narayana Murthy has been called "Chairman Emeritus".

Today he is one with assets of more than 1.87 billion US dollars to the richest Indians. His son-in-law is the British politician Rishi Sunak , who is responsible for international trade relations.
