N. Viswanathan

N. Viswanathan (* 1929 in Vellore , Madras ; † November 17, 2010 in Calcutta , West Bengal ) was an Indian university professor and actor .

Life

N. Viswanathan came from the Tamil Vellore. He studied English and political science at St. Xavier's College of the University of Calcutta and also briefly at the University of Oxford . For 40 years he himself worked as a professor of English at St. Xavier's College.

He was an amateur actor and a member of Utpal Dutt's People's Little Theater, as well as his own group Calcutta Players, with whom he performed plays in English, Bengali and Tamil. Since the 1960s, N. Viswanathan played in films, such as Mrinal Sens Punashcha (1961) and Satyajit Rays Kanchenjungha (1962). In addition to his work in Bengali film , he was also active in Tamil film , for example in the Rajinikanth film Moondru Mudichu (1976).

His son Ashoke Viswanathan is a film director; N. Viswanathan often starred in his films. Most recently he appeared in his son's film Gumshuda , for which he also wrote the script.

N. Viswanathan died at the age of 81.
