NBB also takes on the operation of other electricity , water, district heating and cable networks for various municipal utilities and network operators.

General

On the basis of the EU internal market directives for electricity and gas and the associated introduction of regulated network access to the energy market , NBB was one of the first network operators in Germany to go on January 1, 2006 as a spin-off of the network operations of GASAG Berliner Gaswerke AG and EMB Energie Mark Brandenburg GmbH at the start.

When it was founded, GASAG held 85% and EMB 15% as limited partners . On January 1, 2007 Havelländische Stadtwerke GmbH (HSW) became the new limited partner of NBB. Their capital stake was 1.5%, GASAG's stake was reduced. SpreeGas Gesellschaft für Gasversorgung und Energiedienstleistungs mbH (Cottbus) has held a 3% stake in the company since 2013, while GASAG's stake was reduced to 80.5%. As a result of the merger of Havelländische Stadtwerke GmbH (HSW) with EMB on October 1, 2012, their stake increased to 16.5%.

The general partner of NBB is NBB Netz-Beteiligungs-GmbH , which is responsible for the management of NBB. The management of the company is the responsibility of Maik Wortmeier (chairman) , responsible for the technical business and Frank Behrend (managing director) , who leads the commercial departments.

The NBB is subject to regulation by the Federal Network Agency .

In November 2015, NBB was also confirmed to have a quality and environmental management system that meets the requirements of the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards. In August 2016, such a confirmation was then also issued for the Forest Regional Center in the electricity, gas, district heating and water sectors.

history

Due to the early establishment of the company, it initially took on a pioneering role as a provider of consulting and management services for municipal utilities, energy traders and network operators. New products were brought onto the market and new customers were won.

In 2010 the NBB founded the NETZWERK ERDGAS. The aim of this network is to bring energy experts, providers and customers together on a common discussion and information platform.

Logo of the infreSt

In 2010 infreSt - Infrastruktur eStrasse GmbH (infreSt) was founded. With the eStrasse, it offers construction companies, planning and architecture offices, line network operators, authorities and private clients the opportunity to obtain line information and permits for their construction work from line network operators and to send reports. In addition, infrest has developed an online-based construction site information system (BIS) that can provide information about the duration and customer of construction sites on public roads. Infrest is a subsidiary of NBB Netzgesellschaft Berlin-Brandenburg mbH & Co. KG (67.36%), Stromnetz Berlin GmbH (16.32%) and Vattenfall Europe Wärme AG (16.32%).

Since April 1, 2011, the original cooperation partners, other organs of the Berlin administration as well as newly added line network operators (e.g. Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe , Telekom Deutschland ) and associations ( e.g. IHK Berlin ) have continued and expanded the cooperation.

At the beginning of 2011, the KKI Kompetenzzentrum Kritische Infrastruktur GmbH was founded out of the NBB and in 2012 took over the central reporting office of the NBB. The task of the KKI is to devote itself to protecting critical infrastructures. In order to maintain the high level of security of supply in Germany, the KKI, as an independent information and dialogue platform, deals with the exchange between politics, science and the energy industry. The aim is to develop binding standards for prevention and crisis management in the area of critical infrastructures. In 2012 she took over the central reporting office of NBB. The shareholders of KKI GmbH are NBB Netzgesellschaft Berlin Brandenburg mbH & Co KG from Berlin with 74.9% and con | energy ag from Essen with 25.1%.

NBB network card

Since 2013, NBB has assumed operational responsibility for the SpreeGas network area in the Cottbus and Lusatia region as far as Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt. NBB now operates almost 14,000 kilometers of gas network in Berlin and the surrounding area. This network area is divided into four regional, cross-divisional sub-networks ( sub-network Berlin , sub-network Brandenburg , sub- network Spree-Niederlausitz and network area of Netzgesellschaft Forst (Lausitz) mbH and Co. KG ).

In 2014, the GASAG Group transferred a large part of the training responsibility to NBB, which currently has more than 70 trainees. Cooperation partners are GASAG AG for commercial apprenticeships and various courses of study (office management clerks, industrial clerks, dual studies for Bachelor of Arts (business administration, specializing in industry), Bachelor of Engineering (energy and environmental technology) and Bachelor of Science (business informatics) ). The technical training for the Berlin area takes place in cooperation with BEGA.tec GmbH (plant mechanic, specializing in pipe system technology) and in the Spree / Niederlausitz region in cooperation with LWG Lausitzer Wasser GmbH & Co. KG (plant mechanic, specializing in pipe system technology).

In 2015, NBB received an award from the Berlin Chamber of Industry and Commerce with the seal of “Excellent training quality”, which was confirmed in 2018 for further years (until 2020). In 2018, NBB was also awarded the seal of "Excellent training quality" by the Cottbus Chamber of Commerce for the Spree-Niederlausitz network area.

In June 2016, NBB acquired 49% of the shares in Dortmund-based Westphalian Society for Geoinformation (WGI). The WGI offers network operators and supply companies nationwide services in the area of obtaining information from line networks and its staff has know-how for the processing of various tasks in the IT, cadastral and telecommunications sectors. NBB's involvement with WGI GmbH serves to expand infrest GmbH's service portfolio.

The year 2018 was the beginning of various restructurings, which in 2019 led to a complete reorganization of NBB. With the creation of a “Networks” business unit, which will in future bundle all network-related activities and services of the GASAG Group, NBB became one of the largest local network distribution companies in Germany at the end of 2019. As part of this realignment, around 230 BEGA.tec GmbH employees were initially transferred to NBB on September 1, 2019. Thus, for the first time, NBB was represented on the market with its own construction activities, which had previously only been carried out by third parties. In addition, around 16 GASAG Solution + employees who work in metering and measurement were transferred to NBB. On October 1, 2019, around 100 network billing employees were transferred from BAS Customer Service GmbH and Co. KG to NBB. In addition, the structure and process organization was realigned as part of a company project.

NBB app logo

The topic of digitization is becoming increasingly important for NBB. In 2016, among other things, the development of an NBB app or the Rosenstadt app (for the network area Forst (Lausitz)), which provides information on current construction sites, natural gas and electricity filling stations, energy saving tips and regional news, was concerned. You can also use the app to transmit the gas meter reading and contact installers in the area. In addition, the Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg (VBB) has been integrated into the app in order to simplify the search for connections for public transport . The NBB app is available free of charge for Apple and Android devices.

In the course of the integration of the various networks in the NBB, a uniform geographic information system was created (Smallworld GIS). A harmonizing GIS information system MGC was also introduced in 2015/16.

Finally, Mobile Workforce Management (MWM) was also expanded. Above all, this includes central organization , scheduling , communication , documentation and evaluation of orders. MWM makes it possible to improve the operational processes as well as to reduce the travel times of the service providers and the administrative effort, whereby primarily the use of personnel should be optimized, but also the customer satisfaction should be increased. In addition, it is also possible to achieve more completed orders per employee and to accelerate the entire process of an order. The MWM is used within the NBB for the maintenance of the gas networks and systems, the implementation and quality assurance of in-house work and on-site instruction, the processing and documentation of construction measures, the maintenance of the electricity networks and systems and, since May 2016, also for the metering system.
