NDR Naturfilm is a German production company that produces animal and nature film formats for television, cinema and new media .

history

The NDR Naturfilm was built up from 1979 as a department of the NDR among others by its editor Ulrich Nebelsiek. Among other things, he produced the films in the series Expeditions ins Tierreich for NDR and ARD. Until 1991, Heinz Sielmann was the presenter who shaped the animal films produced by NDR Naturfilm.

The editorial managers were Ulrich Nebelsiek, Beatrice Nolte and later Georg von Rönn. In the mid-1990s, NDR Naturfilm was outsourced by the broadcaster and, in 1997, incorporated into the Studio Hamburg production house . Jörn Röver has been managing director of NDR Naturfilm since 2001 . In 2010, NDR Naturfilm was incorporated into the newly founded Studio Hamburg subsidiary Doclights .

The NDR Naturfilm now produces around 30 animal and nature films per year for the expeditions into the animal kingdom on the NDR and the series Erlebnis Erde on the ARD. According to his own statements, he is Germany's largest producer in this genre. Most of the productions are co-produced with other ARD broadcasters and international partners such as Arte , ORF , BBC , National Geographic , Animal Planet , Terra Mater / ServusTV , NHK Japan, SVT Sweden, WNET New York, CuriosityStream USA.

In addition to the TV business, NDR Naturfilm also produces nature documentaries for the cinema, and since 2015 it has also produced new media formats for the editorial team's own video-on-demand platform, Tierwelt Live.
