The NIBC Bank NV is a Dutch bank. In the Benelux countries and Germany, it offers the range of services of a commercial bank through a combination of advice, financing and joint investments as well as services in the area of ​​specialized finance in the shipping, oil & gas services, infrastructure & renewables and real estate sectors. The parent company is NIBC Holding N.V.

history

The bank was founded in 1945 as Maatschappij tot Financiering van Nationaal Herstel (German: Society for the financing of national reconstruction ) by the Dutch government and served to finance reconstruction projects after the Second World War . In 1971 the bank was De N ational I nvesterings b ank NV (: German NIB National Investment Bank ) renamed and eventually 1986 stock market brought.

The stock exchange listing was ended in 1999 and the bank was acquired by a joint venture of the world's largest pension funds ( ABP , PGGM ) and renamed NIB Capital Bank NV (15 percent of the shares remained with the Dutch government until 2004). Since 2005, NIBC Bank has been owned by a consortium of shareholders around the financial investor J.C. Flowers & Co. LLC , which includes Banco Santander Central Hispano , Delta Lloyd and ABN AMRO , among others . The NIB Capital Private Equity was cut out on the takeover, and since its under the name AlpInvest Partners .

In August 2007, NIBC and the Icelandic Kaupthing Bank announced that Kaupthing would take over NIBC for 2.99 billion euros - with the exception of NIBC's loss-making investments in the US sub-prime market for mortgage lending. Due to the financial crisis that began in 2007 , the negotiations failed in January 2008.

On November 28, 2008, it was announced that the bank would have to issue bonds due to its negative credit rating , which are covered by a guarantee from the Dutch government of up to one billion euros.

On March 9, 2010, the bank published its annual financial statements for 2009 and was able to report a net profit of 44 million euros for 2009. The profit had doubled in the second half of 2009 compared to the first half of the year. In the second half of the year, new business in the loan area also tripled compared to the first half of the year. In March, NIBC Bank issued another RMBS securitization. The total volume amounts to 750 million euros, with Dutch housing finance as security.

As of December 31, 2018, the bank had a “core tier 1 ratio” ( core capital ratio ) of 19.9%.

The head office of the bank is in The Hague in the Netherlands. Other locations are Brussels , Frankfurt and London .

On April 10, 2014, the takeover of Gallinat Bank by NIBC Bank was completed.

NIBC Bank has been listed again since March 2018.

NIBC Direct

Since February 3, 2009, the Dutch NIBC Bank in Germany has been offering investment products for private customers under the name NIBC Direct in the form of overnight money accounts and time deposits on the Internet. Since December 2009, NIBC Direct has also been offering six youth fixed-term deposit accounts for savers under the age of 18 and, since December 2010, so-called combined money accounts, a mixture of overnight and fixed-term deposits. The deposits, which are intended to broaden the bank's refinancing base , are covered by the Dutch deposit insurance .

In July 2011, NIBC Direct expanded its offer to include a securities account that offers access to all German trading venues, and in July 2019 a time deposit product with short withdrawal periods of 30, 60 and 90 days was introduced, which offers higher interest rates than a comparable overnight deposit account .

The direct banking business of NIBC Bank NV began in the Netherlands in September 2008. Since the end of December 2011, NIBC Direct has also been represented in Belgium.
