Nadine Kammerlander

Nadine Kammerlander (born June 21, 1983 in Künzelsau ) is a German economist , holder of the chair for family businesses and head of the institute for family businesses at the WHU - Otto Beisheim School of Management in Vallendar .

Career

From 2002 to 2007, Kammerlander completed a degree in physics at the Technical University of Munich , which she graduated with a degree in physics . She then worked as a consultant at the international management consultancy McKinsey & Company . She completed her doctorate in the field of family businesses and disruptive technologies in 2012 at the University of Bamberg at the chair of Björn Ivens . She was awarded the Hans Löwel Prize for her doctorate. After her doctorate, Nadine Kammerlander worked as a lecturer and assistant professor at the Center for Family Business at the University of St. Gallen , where she completed her habilitation. In 2015, her scientific work was awarded the Latsis Prize . Nadine Kammerlander has been professor for family businesses at WHU in Vallendar since the end of 2015 , where she heads the institute for family businesses of the same name, which organizes events for family businesses several times a year under the label “Campus for Family Business”. In addition, Nadine Kammerlander was elected spokesperson for the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Group. Nadine Kammerlander is co-editor ("Associate Editor") of the scientific journal Family Business Review, member of the board of the Association of Supervisory Boards in Germany (VARD), and member of the innovation advisory board of DESY Deutsches Electron Synchrotron . In 2018, Kammerlander and the State Women's Council of Rhineland-Palatinate organized a nationwide competition on the subject of “Successful women in medium-sized companies”, which aims to make successful women visible at board level in medium-sized companies. In 2018, Nadine Kammerlander was named one of the “Top 40 under 40” personalities by Capital magazine (Germany) . She is married and has three children.

Research priorities

Nadine Kammerlander's research focuses on the topics of innovation and entrepreneurship in family and medium-sized businesses . Corresponding research results have been taken up by the journals Forbes , Harvard Business Manager and Harvard Business Review . In 2018, the Institute for Family Businesses led by Nadine Kammerlander carried out a large-scale study on digitization in German SMEs. Another research focus is the family office . Here Nadine Kammerlander examines various governance mechanisms, investment strategies and the development of family ties and entrepreneurial attitudes over time.

Further research by Nadine Kammerlander deals with the topics of cooperation between startups and family businesses, management of family businesses, governance of family businesses and the role of consultants in family businesses. Kammerlander's research has appeared in the journals Academy of Management Review, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management Studies, Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Family Business Review, Journal of Family Business Strategy and International Small Business Journal .
