Local traffic in Hanau
The urban area of Hanau is served by the Rhein-Main S-Bahn and the Odenwaldbahn . Regional buses run by Stadtverkehr Maintal , Regionalverkehr Kurhessen GmbH (RKH), Kreisverkehrsgesellschaft Offenbach (kvgOF), KreisVerkehrsGesellschaft Main-Kinzig , Rack Tours GmbH, HEUSER GmbH, Alpina Rhein-Main GmbH and the urban buses of the Hanau tram GmbH (HSB).
Rates
City traffic is integrated into the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV), its tariffs and tickets apply on all rail and bus routes. The fare depends on the number of tariff zones traveled through.

The city is served by the S-Bahn lines S 8 (since 1995) and S 9 (since 2000).
Transfer points
The central bus station (ZOB) of the city of Hanau is the Freiheitsplatz . It is located between Hanau's old town and the new town. There are both urban and regional connections and transfer options. Other important transfer points are the Hanau main train station , the market square , the west train station , the north train station and the Wilhelmsbad and Steinheim (Main) train stations .

When the timetable changed in the summer of 1995 , there were decisive changes in Hanau local transport. The city was connected to the Frankfurt S-Bahn system and at the same time all local transport companies in contact with the city area joined the newly founded Rhein-Main transport association. This went hand in hand with changes in the sense of the cycle system desired by RMV, which should consist of a 15/30/60 minute cycle, and in the area of line planning, so that now senseless competing offers could disappear within the network. In plain language, this meant that almost all lines previously contradicting the new composite scheme were adapted, so that the following changes were made:
- 4 : Changeover to 15-minute intervals with simultaneous adjustment of travel times to the arrival and departure times of the S-Bahn at Steinheimer Bahnhof.
- 6 : Changeover to 15-minute intervals between the city center and Großauheim. As a result, however, the cycle extension between Groß- and Klein-Auheim from 20 to 30 minutes.
- 12 : Conversion to the clock system that is still valid today in 30-minute intervals and clock reinforcements at 15-minute intervals in rush hour traffic; also adjustment to the S-Bahn times at Steinheimer Bahnhof.
- 14 : Elimination of the line in favor of system lines operated by other transport companies.
- 16 : Changeover to the 30-minute cycle that is still valid today and guidance between Großauheim and Hanau main train station via an expressway, leaving out the Großauheim industrial area in favor of regional bus line 566.
