Nai-Cau

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Nai-Cau ( Naicau ) was a Liurai , a traditional ruler of Soro , in what is now the East Timorese municipality of Ainaro .

Life

In 1907 Nai-Cau, son of Tai-Mali, managed to fight for Soro's independence from the empire of Atsabe .

In 1912 Nai-Cau and his nephew Aleixo Corte-Real supported the Portuguese colonial rulers during the Manufahi rebellion against Boaventura , the rebellious Liurai from neighboring Manufahi . When Boaventura attacked the Portuguese military post in Ainaro , Nai-Cau came to the aid of the Portuguese. Because of this support, Nai-Cau is also known as the Traitor-Liurai in Timor .
