Najden Todorov ( Bulgarian Найден Тодоров , English Nayden Todorov ; * 1974 in Plovdiv ) is a Bulgarian conductor .

Life

Najden Todorow was born in Bulgaria in 1974. He studied in Vienna with Karl Österreicher and Uros Lajovic and in Jerusalem with Mendi Rodan .

His first permanent engagement as a conductor was in 1996 in Haifa with the Israel Northern Symphony Orchestra. He later worked at opera houses in Bulgaria, Romania and Macedonia, as well as being a guest conductor at the Vienna Volksoper , the Teatro Reggio Parma, the Wichita Grand Opera, the Bucharest National Opera , the Teatro Reggio Calabria and the Venezia Festival Opera. He has conducted the Berlin Symphony Orchestra , the Israel Chamber Orchestra , the Brasov Philharmonic, the Poznan Philharmonic, the Slovak Philharmonic, the Bratislava RSO, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the Thames Chamber Orchestra, the Seoul Prime Philharmonic, the Palma di Mallorca Symphony Orchestra, the Kosovo National Philharmonic, the Rzeszov Philharmonic, the Byalistok Philharmonic, the Kalisz Philharmonic, the Jaroslavl Philharmonic.

At the age of 27 he became general music director at the Plovdiv State Opera. This made him the youngest Bulgarian conductor in this position. In addition, he became music director of the "Thracia Summer International Music Festival". Since 2001 he has been a regular guest conductor of the National Opera in Sofia and since 2004 Principal Guest Conductor of the National Philharmonic in Sofia. 2005-2016 Najden Todorow is Artistic Director of the State Opera and Philharmonic Rousse in Bulgaria and since 2017 he has been Director of the National Philharmonic in Sofia.

He has worked with many well-known singers, including Anna Tomowa-Sintow , Raina Kabaivanska , Samuel Ramey , Ghena Dimitrova , Michèle Crider , Johannes Martin Kränzle , Noëmi Nadelmann , and Leo Nucci .

In March 2013 he was voted Musician of the Year in his homeland and in September 2014 was awarded the “Emil Tchakarov” prize for his services to Bulgarian music.

At the Solothurn Classics in 2012 he was the musical director of Verdi's Nabucco.
