Najib Karim

Najibulla "Najib" Karim (* 1973 in Kabul ) is a German biochemist and politician ( New Liberals ). From September 2014 to November 2015 he was co-federal chairman of the New Liberals together with Sylvia Canel . Until 2014 he was a member of the FDP .

education and profession

Karim studied biochemistry and did his doctorate at the Hannover Medical School on a topic in the field of experimental surgery . He works as a management consultant and is a freelance writer for the online magazine Tichys Insight .

politics

Karim joined the FDP in 2009 and was European Commissioner in Hamburg until 2013 . He also became deputy state chairman. Karim was a candidate for the FDP Hamburg for the 2013 federal election and the 2014 European election .

In September 2014 he left the FDP due to power struggles and, together with like-minded people like Dieter Biallas and Sylvia Canel, founded the New Liberals party , which sees itself as social liberal in contrast to the market liberalism of the FDP.

Personal

Karim was born in Kabul and has lived in Germany since he was six. He lives in Hamburg .
