Nakshatra
The Nakshatra ( Devanagari : नक्षत्र) are a division of the ecliptic into 27 lunar groups of stars in traditional Indian astronomy and astrology . The simple translation is: star, moon house, planetary constellation that is assigned to one of the moon houses. They roughly correspond to the days of the sidereal month , ie the moon rises in a different nakshatra every day. The twelve of the months of the Hindu lunisolar calendar are named after twelve of the lunar stations.
In Hindu mythology, the 27 Nakshatras are the daughters of Daksha and all were given for marriage to the moon god Chandra (Soma). This one preferred Rohini over everyone else that the others would get jealous and complain to Daksha. When Soma's objection was unsuccessful, he cursed the moon and asked him to march. But then the daughters felt pity and asked for mercy. Daksha could not undo the curse but weaken it so that the moon only wanes for 14 days and then increases again for 14 days.
The system of Nakshatra has already been handed down in full in Yajurveda (approx. 1000 BC) and was widely used in Asia , although it is disputed whether the system was created by the Indians or the Chinese. In contrast, it is clear that the Arabs , even in pre-Islamic times, took over and reorganized the system of lunar houses ( Manazil al-Qamar ).
The position of the moon in the Nakshatra plays an important role in the Indian astrology Jyotish . The sun is not to be regarded as the preferred planet as in western astrology, but the moon ( Chandra ). Its position in the horoscope , which is called Janma Kundali, shows the actual birth star and its associated meanings in this Vedic science.
