The Namibia Ice and Inline Hockey Association ( NIIHA , formerly: Namibia Inline Skating Association (NISA) ) is the association responsible for ice and inline sports in Namibia and also organizes the Namibian national inline hockey team . The NIIHA is an affiliate member of World Skate (FIRS) and was also a member of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) between 1998 and 2017 .

history

The beginning of inline sports began with the return of a Swakopmunder from the USA when he brought his first inline skates with him. The sport grew in popularity and numerous foreign coaches from Europe and North America were recruited.

societies

In-line hockey is primarily played in Namibia. Ice hockey is not actively practiced in Namibia, although Namibian teams regularly travel to South Africa for ice hockey training sessions . The construction of an ice rink in Windhoek has been planned since 2004.

The clubs are:

Divisions

There are 10 divisions in Namibian inline hockey:

  • U8 Division (players up to 8 years and younger)
  • U10 Division (players from 9 to 10 years)
  • U12 Division (players aged 11 to 12)
  • U14 Division (players from 13 to 14 years)
  • U16 Division (players from 15 to 16 years)
  • U18 Division (players aged 17 to 18)
  • Open Division (players over 18 years)
  • Ladies Division (women)
  • Master Division (Men)
  • Senior Division (Seniors)

League mode

Due to the increasing popularity of the sport in Namibia, the main league "Open Division" was switched to the North American league system for the 2011 season. Accordingly, each club organizes two tournaments per year, in which two other teams take part. The points gained then serve to qualify for the Namibian championship tournament in November.
