Nanocnide is a genus of plants fromthe nettle family (Urticaceae).

description

They are small to medium-sized (10 to 40 cm) perennial, herbaceous plants with upright stems branching off from a creeping rhizome . This creates grass-like stands ( populations ). The plants have stinging hairs , but only short and few. The stems and leaf margins are often reddish.

The alternate leaves are only slightly longer than wide and have a roughly and deeply serrated leaf margin. At the base of each leaf sit two membranous stipules .

The male flowers stand in clearly stalked cymes in the leaf axils and are also stalked again. They usually have a five-fold, sometimes four-fold perianth , with all bracts being the same. The female flowers, however, sit in sessile clusters in the leaf axils. Your perianth is fourfold, the two inner bracts are smaller than the two outer ones. The flowering period is from April to May.
