The Nantucket Inlet is an ice-covered, about 22 km long and up to 10 km wide bay on the Lassiter Coast of Palmer Lands on the Antarctic Peninsula . It lies in a northwest-southeast orientation between the Smith Peninsula and the Bowman Peninsula .
Scientists from the United States Antarctic Service Expedition (1939–1941) discovered it on a flight from East Base on Stonington Island on December 30, 1940. It is named after the island of Nantucket off the coast of the US state of Massachusetts , which is in the Was a whaling stronghold in New England in the 19th century .
