Henri Reber (born October 21, 1807 in Mulhouse / Alsace , † November 24, 1880 in Paris ) was a French composer .

Life

Henri Reber, son of an Alsatian industrial family, was originally intended for the merchant class, but then switched to music and became a student of Antonín Rejcha and Jean-François Lesueur at the Paris Conservatory . Here he has taught harmony since 1851 and composition since 1862 .

Reber composed five operas (including La nuit de Noël , Le père Gaillard , Les papillotes de Mr. Benoist , Les dames capitaines ) and the ballet The Devil in Love , four symphonies and an orchestral suite , the cantata Roland , chamber music works, songs , vocalises , Choirs and sacred vocal music.

Reber was accepted into the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1853 in place of the late George Onslow . After his death, Reber was buried in the Paris Père Lachaise cemetery (Division 55).
