Escape into the Wild (original title Napoleon and Samantha ) is an American drama from 1972 with Michael Douglas , Jodie Foster and Johnny Whitaker in the lead roles.

After the death of his grandfather, the eleven-year-old boy Napoleon fears that his former circus lion Major will be taken away from him and that he will have to live with an uncle who lives far away. To avoid this fate, he persuades his girlfriend Samantha to flee with him and the animal into the mountains. There they look for the hermit Danny, from whom they hope to get help and learn some wisdom.
