Narew ( Lithuanian Narevas ; Belarusian Нараў ) is a former town in the powiat Hajnowski of the Podlaskie Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the rural community of the same name with 3476 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2019).
Narew is the headquarters of Pronar , a manufacturer of trailers , agricultural machinery and recycling systems , which produced its own tractors between 1992 and 2018 .
geography
The place is located on the south bank of the Narew River , about 15 kilometers north of the district town Hajnówka . The border with Belarus is about 25 kilometers to the east.
history
Narew received city rights in 1514 . They were confiscated in 1934. The rural community has existed since 1973, its predecessors existed from 1919 to 1934 (excluding the township) and from 1934 to 1954. From 1975 to 1998 it belonged to the Białystok Voivodeship .
